How to Add Contacts to Gmail?

If you didn’t already know; Google uses a universal contact system. This means that the contacts you add to Gmail will be available on all of the devices that are synced with your Google account. This includes your desktop computers as well as your mobile devices like iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Gmail will automatically add people to your contacts list when you send them an email. You don’t have to add these people to your contacts list, as they are already there.

How to add a Contact from a Received Email?

If you have ever received an email from the person you want to save as a contact, you have the ability to add that person to your contacts list without having to manually enter their details. This is due to Gmail already having their name as well as their email address.

To add a contact to Gmail in this way, first, you have to launch the Gmail site on a web browser on your Windows, Mac, Chromebook, or Linux computer. Log in to your Gmail account.

When Gmail opens, locate and then open the email from the person you want to add to your contacts. On the email window, hover your cursor over the name of the email sender, this will let Gmail open a menu.

In the menu that appears, click on “More Info.”

Then, Gmail will open a new contacts pane to the right of the email interface. In the top-right of this page, click on “Add to Contacts” (This is indicated by a person’s icon with a plus sign) to add that particular contact to your Gmail.

Gmail will then add the selected contact to your account, it will then display an “Added” message at the bottom of the pane.

If you wish to quickly edit the newly added contact, click on “Edit Contact” (This is indicated by a pencil icon) in the top-right corner of the contacts pane. Doing so will open the Google Contacts site in a new tab of the web browser, here you will be able to edit your contact.

How to Manually Add a Contact to Gmail?

One more way you can add a contact to Gmail is to manually enter the contact’s details in your Gmail account. You have to use this method if you want to save someone from whom you have never received an email.

To start with this process, visit the Gmail website in a web browser on your Windows, Mac, or your Linux computer. On the Gmail site, from the top-right, click on “Google Apps” (This is indicated by a rectangle made of nine dots).

From the “Google Apps” menu, click on “Contacts,” this will open the Google Contacts site in a new tab of your browser, here you will be able to view your current Gmail contacts list.

On the Google Contacts site that appears, from the menu to the left, click on Create Contact > Create a Contact.

Tip – If you want to add multiple contacts in a single go, clicking on Create Contact > Create Multiple Contacts will do the trick.

Google Contacts will then open a “Create New Contact” window, here, you can fill in the details for the contact you wish to add. For example, click on “First Name,” in this field you can enter the person’s first name, click on “Email” to enter the person’s email address and fill in the other details as well.

After you have entered all the details that you wish to save, click on “Save” in the bottom-right of the “Create New Contact” window.

A message saying “New Contact Created” will be displayed at the bottom of the Google Contacts page. This is to confirm that your contact was successfully added to the Gmail account.

How to Add Contacts to Gmail from iPhone, iPad, or Android?

As Gmail uses a universal contact system, you can just add your Gmail (Google) account to your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, then you can use your phone’s default Contacts app to add contacts to Gmail.

As mentioned earlier, you only need to add a contact on a single device, then it will be automatically synced across all other devices that use the same Gmail account.

How to Delete a Contact from Gmail?

If you no longer want to keep contact in your account, you have the ability to remove them from any device linked to your Google account, that is including your desktop computer as well as the mobile device.

This article will show you how to delete a contact using Gmail’s web interface. You have to begin by launching the Google Contacts site in a web browser on any of your Windows, Mac, Chromebook, or Linux computers.

From the Google Contacts site, click on “Contacts” in the sidebar on the left.

After the “Contacts” screen opens, click on the “Search” box at the top, then type the name of the contact you wish to remove. If not, you can click on a contact from the list on your screen.

A window will open this window contains your selected contact’s details. In the top-right corner of this window, click on the three dots, then click on “Delete” from the menu.

You will receive a “Delete This Contact” prompt. Click on “Delete.”

Google will then remove your selected contact; you will get a message saying “Contact Deleted” at the bottom of the site.

And that’s it, you’re done. That is how you can add and delete Contacts to Gmail.
