How to Enable Dark Mode in Snapchat (iOS & Android)

With the growing demand for dark mode, a lot of apps have started to include the same in their themes to increase usage as well as reduce the stress on the eyes. But what exactly is this dark mode? Dark mode can be referred to in many other terms, like night mode or bedtime mode.

What you'll learn today
Why is Dark mode popular? How to enable Dark Mode in Snapchat IOS?How to enable dark mode in Snapchat Android?BLUE-LIGHT FILTERHow to make dark mode default for all apps?

The ulterior motive of this dark mode is to provide comfort to the eyes and to make the contents on the screen dimmed at the same visible to the eyes. The advantage of using this dark mode is that it takes up less battery.

Most of the apps have this feature in their themes while some have still not released their dark mode version yet. We will be talking below about how to enable this popular dim-lit mode on another popular messaging or social media app that always is trending, none other than Snapchat which released its dark mode in May 2021.

Why is Dark mode popular?

In recent times, the dark mode feature is gaining serious popularity and a lot of tech companies are adding this theme to various features on their app. The main motive to launch the night mode or dark mode or dark theme is to make the experience of surfing through websites and apps more enjoyable and less stressful for the eye.

The dark theme has helped users spend more time with their screens and simultaneously report less stress and strain regardless. Since the brighter light makes the iris expand to pass the light, the darker mode is preferred as it poses less burden on the iris. It also allows a better understanding of the text that we see and can be used even when the light around us is dim.

It is most popular for all the above reasons and at the same time, it takes very less battery usage and is very convenient to use irrespective of where it is being applied.

How to enable Dark Mode in Snapchat IOS?

You can enable the dark mode for your Snapchat on your iPhones, or iPads in just a few steps.

  1. Open the Snapchat app on your iPhone.
  2. Click on your profile that will be displayed in the top left corner in the form of your ‘Bitmoji’.
  3. At the top right, you will find the settings option, click on that.
  4. You will now see a list of options, select ‘app appearance as you scroll down.
  5. You can now choose your desired theme for your Snapchat. To enable the dark mode, choose the option ‘Always Dark’.

How to enable dark mode in Snapchat Android?

Unfortunately, Snapchat has released its dark mode applies only to iOS users though they have been promising to release a version for android users as well, as of April 2022.

However, some users have reported using dark mode on Snapchat on their android devices but again, this depends on the location. But there are quite a few alternatives that may or may not work to enable this feature on android devices.

The most used method would be force dark mode. Although the newer versions are from android 10 onwards, this method has not helped get the dark mode to Snapchat.

For the earlier versions, you can follow these steps.

  1. Open the settings of your phone and click the display option.
  2.  You will see an option that indicates the enabling of the dark theme or in some phones, it may be called the dark mode.
  3. Now go back to the settings and select the system option.
  4. Click on the option that says Advanced.
  5. You will see a drop-down menu, choose ‘developer options.
  6. As you scroll down you will see a label called ‘hardware Accelerated Rendering’, click on the ‘override force dark’ option under that.

This override force dark is nothing but forcing the device’s dark theme to stay on such that any app that runs is under this dark theme. It forces the dark theme onto the apps. This however does not work on Snapchat on newer android versions.

This is an app called blue-light filter on the play store that you can download for free. This is a trusted third-party app that runs on your device. Although it doesn’t provide a dark mode for your Snapchat it for sure protects your eyes from the bright light from your device.

How to make dark mode default for all apps?

Applying dark mode to all the apps varies from device to device.

For Windows

In Windows 10, you can add the Dark mode theme to the system as well by simply opening the settings app and then proceeding to the personalization option. You will see a few options, choose colors and select ‘dark’.  This will enable the dark mode for all the functions in your windows 10.

Android

Since android versions vary quite significantly, in the latest version you can enable the dark mode for all the apps by heading to the settings and choosing the display option. Slide the toggle option of the dark theme such that it is turned on. Although the versions may vary, you will see the dark mode option under the display option only but the way it gets turned on may slightly vary.

iPhone

Apple has a customizable dark mode and to turn this on, open the settings and choose Display & Brightness, and select bubble under the Dark option. If you wish to switch between light and dark, you can turn on the Automatic option and also choose a schedule for the same.
