Last Line No Longer Available Fix

iPhone users that use an eSIM might have spotted an error that notifies you that “last line no longer available” when you try to place a call. But what does this error mean, and what can you do about it?

What Does “Last Line No Longer Available” Mean?

The error appears to affect the preferred line on an iPhone that uses dual-SIM functionality; that is, if you have more than one cellular plan linked to your iPhone using a standard SIM and an eSIM, you might encounter this problem.

The error often appears when you attempt to dial out from the “default” SIM using the recent call log under Phone > Recent. You can spot a mistake that offers you the alternative of calling using the “remaining” line. You have to tap on “Call” in the box that appears. However, remember that this will call from whatever number is not set as the default.

What are Some Fixes You Can Try?

It is impossible to encounter the error if you use a single SIM since it requires more than one SIM in your iPhone, which makes finding potential fixes hard.

Despite that, many potential fixes are available, most of them anecdotal, all the tales of “this worked for me.” So, your success rate might vary on each, however, say you are encountering this error a lot, then you will probably have plenty of opportunities to test the given solutions.

The first and obvious Solution: You must be running the latest version of iOS. Errors such as this are often linked to bugs, so updating your iPhone will potentially solve this error. If you wish to update your iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. You could also try to update your available carrier settings. To do so, visit the Settings > General > About menu and tap “Update” when prompted.

Two other common and simple solutions: Involve enabling Airplane mode under Control Center and the Ol ‘faithful restarting your iPhone. Both will reset the network connection, which might resolve the problem. You could also try to toggle between your SIMs before you dial. To do so, go to Settings > Mobile/Cellular Data menu, then tap “Turn on This Line” next to the plan you wish to use.

You could also use a similar fix that involves removing and reinstalling your SIM card. You can try this method on an iPhone using a SIM tool or any thin pointy object, such as a paperclip.

According to a few users enabling (or disabling, then re-enabling) Wi-Fi calling also helped resolve this issue. To do this, make your way o Settings > Mobile/Cellular Data, tap on Wi-Fi Calling here and toggle the setting. There have also been reports of success after clearing their recent call log. To do so, make your way to Phone > Recent, then tap on Edit, Clear, and “Clear All Recent” in the pop-up that appears.

Finally, suppose you still haven’t had any success. In that case, you could try to reset your iPhone’s network settings by visiting Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone by tapping on “Reset” followed by “Reset Network Settings.” Doing so will reset all cellular settings, VPN and APN settings, and Wi-Fi credentials to factory defaults.
