How to Hide Red Notification Badges on Mac? Easy steps

If you are bothered by the red notification badges on Mac, which are indicators of unread messages or emails on top of the app icons on your MacBook, don’t worry, you can easily turn them off. macOS has two types of notification badges. There’s the obvious simple red dot, and then there’s another one that has a number inside, regardless of their appearance, both are equally bothersome, and look ugly as hell.

Though it might be useful to know that there are a couple of unread texts, no one wants a daily reminder about 50,000 unread emails.  The best thing being, you can turn off these badges quickly and will show you how.

Here’s how to hide Red Notification badges on Mac: Step-by-step guide

  • Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your Mac’s screen and open “System Preferences.”
  • In System Preferences, click on “Notifications.” This has a bell icon with a red dot.
  • Under Notifications, you’ll be able to see a bunch of installed apps in the left pane.
  • Select any app that has been showing you notification badges and then unchecks the “Badge App Icon.”

The process can be repeated as many times over, for the apps that have been giving you trouble with these red badges. Unchecking the “Badge App Icon” gets rid of the annoying red notification badge, however, will allow apps to send notifications.

Once this process is done, remember that there won’t be any indicator to remind you about unread notifications. If you missed the notification banner, you’ll have to open the app to see crosscheck if you’ve missed any messages.  If you liked this article (or if it helped at all), leave a comment below or share it with friends, so they can also know how to hide red notification badges on Mac.
