In Windows 10, you can create a local account that is not connected to any Microsoft service. This means you don’t have to worry about what happens with your windows account if the company goes bankrupt or changes its privacy policy. It also provides more security because it doesn’t give others access to your email and other details that are stored on Microsoft servers. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to create a local account in Windows 10.

Though Microsoft has since removed the option to create a local account from the Windows 10 Home installation, there are ways you could skip using the Microsoft account. Windows 10 users don’t have the option to create a local account as part of the OOBE setup, anymore. Although you are provided with the option to choose between a Microsoft account or a traditional local account during the setup. The experience is mostly intended to lure users into selecting the Microsoft account option.

How to create a local account during the installation of Windows 10?

  • Disconnect the computer from the network.
  • Tip: If you’re using an Ethernet, disconnect the cable from your computer. If you’re using a wireless connection, switch the adapter off.
  • In the “Sign in with Microsoft” section, click on the Next button without providing an account name.
  • Click the Create account option.
  • Click the Skip button.
  • Specify a name for your local account.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Create a password for the local account.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Confirm the password.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Select your first security question in the drop-down menu that appears.
  • Confirm your first answer.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Repeat steps 11, 12, and 13 for two more times to complete the set-up.
  • Continue with the on-screen directions.

How does one create a local account after Windows 10 is installed?

To convert a Microsoft account into a local account, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on Accounts.
  • Click on Your Info.
  • Press the option that says, Sign in with a local account.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Specify your account information, i.e., username, password.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Click the Sign-out and finish button.
