How to Record a Phone Call on Android?

Recording phone calls on an Android device could prove to be a challenge depending on your device manufacturer or your carrier. Yes, Google’s own Phone app does offer a recording feature, however, whether or not it works depends on the carrier, region, along with other conditions. If that doesn’t work for you, you can use an external recording device. There are also several on-device options, all the way from Google Voice to third-party apps.

How to use the Google Phone app to Record Calls?

Using the Google Phone app, you can-

  • Always record calls from unknown numbers.
  • Always record calls from chosen contacts.
  • Record an individual call.
  • You can playback saved recordings; you can even customize how long to keep recorded calls.

Note: Few certain devices and carriers support recording calls. Few laws require all people on the call to consent to being recorded. Before the call begins, call participants are notified that the call is recorded.

How to record your phone calls?

The Android device you’re using must run Android 9 and up, along with that you must have the latest version of the Phone app.

You must be situated in a country or region where call recording is supported because call recording is not available everywhere. The features provided also vary based on your country or region.

How to Turn on “Always record” for unknown numbers?

  • On the smartphone, open the Google Phone app.
  • At the top, navigate to More options (the three dots) > Settings Call recording.
  • Under “Always record,” you need to turn on Numbers, not in the contacts.
  • Tap on Always record.

How to Turn on “Always record” for select contacts?

  • On the smartphone, open the Google Phone app.
  • At the top, navigate to More options (the three dots) > Settings Call recording.
  • Under “Always record,” you need to turn on Numbers, not in the contacts.
  • Toggle the Always record selected numbers to ON.
  • At the top right, select Add.
  • Select a contact.
  • Tap on Always record.

Tip: You can also open a contact to turn on call recording, tap on Edit contact Always record calls at the bottom right of the contact card.

How to start a recording from a call?

The first time you are recording a call, you will be advised you are required to comply with local laws related to recording calls. Few jurisdictions require consent by all parties to record the call.

To protect the privacy of all users, as soon as you start recording, all the people on the call will be notified with a disclosure that the call is being recorded. After you stop recording, the people on the call are also notified with a disclosure that the call is no longer being recorded.

  • To do so, open the Phone app.
  • Now you need to make or receive a call.
  • To record a call, on the ongoing call screen, you just need to tap on Record
  • If you wish to stop recording, tap on Stop recording.
