Did you ever wonder what windows version your device is running? Do you want to know which version of Windows you’re running? This is not something that will help you all the time, to be honest, there’s little reason to care. However, if you are trying to upgrade your system or use a program that requires a specific version, you would have to know your windows version.
Thankfully, every version of Windows lets you check the current version. Here is the easiest way you can check exactly which version of Windows you have.
What Windows do I have?
Use Winver
This is the easiest way you can get to know your windows version. To find out which version of Windows your device is running:
- Press the Windows logo key + R
- Type winver in the Open box
- Then select OK.

For Windows 11
- Navigate to Start > Settings > System > About.
- Open About settings.
- Under Device specifications > System type, here you can check if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.
- Under Windows specifications, you can check which edition as well as the version of Windows your device is running.
For Windows 10
- Navigate to Start > Settings > System > About.
- Open About settings.
- Under Device specifications > System type, here you can check if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.
- Under Windows specifications, you can check which edition as well as the version of Windows your device is running.
For Windows 8.1
- If you are using a touch device, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, select Settings, then tap on Change PC settings.
- If you are using a mouse, use it to point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click on Settings, then click on Change PC settings.
- Click on PC and devices > PC info.
- Under Windows, you will be able to spot which edition and version of Windows your device is running.
- Under PC > System type you will be able to check if you’re running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.

For Windows 7
- Select the Start button, enter Computer in the search box, right-click on Computer, then click on Properties.
- Under Windows edition, you will be able to check the version and edition of Windows that your device is running.
