Before learning how to turn off find my iPhone, let’s learn a bit about what is a find my iPhone? The iPhone has a convenient feature called the Find My iPhone, which helps you track your phone if it ever goes missing. What it also does is keeps tabs on other devices in and out of the Apple ecosystem. In situations when you’re selling, trading in or otherwise saying goodbye to your iPhone, it’s better if you turn off Find My iPhone.

Turning off the Find My feature removes the device from the list of devices linked with your account and prevents other owners from accessing your information. If you no longer have the device, you can remove the device from your account using Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.

How to turn off Find My iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch?

On any of the above-mentioned devices, you can follow any one of the steps.

iOS 13, iPadOS 13 or newer:

  • Settings
  • [your name]
  • Find My
  • then turn off Find My [device].
  • Enter the Apple ID’s password
  • Tap to Turn Off.

iOS 12 or previous versions:

  • Settings
  • [your name]
  • iCloud
  • then turn off Find My [device].

How to turn off Find My Mac?

For the Mac,

  • Choose Apple menu
  • System Preferences

Then follow any one of the steps given below.

macOS 10.15 or newer:

  • Click on Apple ID
  • Then click on iCloud
  • deselect Find My Mac.

macOS 10.14 or previous:

  • Click on iCloud
  • then deselect Find My Mac.

How to turn off Find My Apple Watch?

  • Press & hold the side button until a slider appears, then drag the Power Off slider towards the right.
  • Open the Apple Watch app, tap on My Watch, then tap on your Apple Watch at the top of the screen.
  • Then tap on Unpair Apple Watch.
  • Open Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, from all the devices, select Apple Watch from the list.
  • Click on Remove from Account.

How to turn off Find My AirPods?

  • Put AirPods in their case.
  • Unpair them in Bluetooth Settings.
  • If using an iPhone:  Settings > Bluetooth, tap “i”, then tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
  • On your Mac: open Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, click “x” then click Forget This Device.
  • Open Find My iPhone in iCloud.com, from All Devices, then select AirPods.
  • Click on Remove from Account.

Find my iPhone is an important function of your device. But it can cause a lot of problems if you don’t know how to turn it off. The Find My iPhone app has the ability to locate and even remotely erase data from your phone. If someone else gets access to your password, they will be able to track your location and, in some cases, make changes on all devices associated with that account. It’s important for you to know what this app does and how you can protect yourself from any potential intruders or thieves.
