How to make the Print Screen Key Literally Print the Screen using Snagit?

The Print Screen key used to do exactly what it’s titled back in ancient times. Previously just pressing the key would automatically send an image copy of your entire screen to the printer. This was discarded in modern operating systems, and it’s no longer possible to do.

However, you can use a third-party application called Snagit. Snagit allows you to instantly capture your screen, add additional context, and the ability to easily share it with your coworkers. Snagit is a trusted tool as it is used by over 39 million people worldwide.

Snagit brings you a whole plethora of features that’ll help you make your screen captures easy and more expressive. You can purchase Snagit here, there is no completely free version of Snagit, however, you can try the paid version for free for 15 days.

How do we Set up Snagit to print screen?

  • Visit the Snagit Print settings to make sure it’s going to the right device. Click on the Output menu, then click on Properties.
  • Go to the Print tab, then double-check the settings to make sure the printer is set up.
  • The next step is the capture/input settings. The basic way is to set it to Full Screen. You could also set it to Active Window if you prefer just to print the program you are currently working on.
  • Then set up the output, which needs to be sent to the printer, then the editor preview has to be disabled.
  • After the setup process is done, whenever you press the Print Screen key (unless you’ve changed the default capture key), Snagit will instantly send an image of the entire screen to your printer.
