How can you Open Terminal Using Spotlight Search?

Perhaps the easiest, as well as the quickest way to open Terminal, is by Spotlight Search. To launch Spotlight, click on the small magnifying glass icon in your menu bar. Or, you can press the keys Command + Space on the keyboard.

When the Spotlight Search bar pops up, type in “terminal.app” then hit the Return key. Or you can just click on the Terminal. App icon.

The Terminal will launch, and be ready to use.

How can you Open Terminal on a mac from the Launchpad?

You can open Terminal quickly from the Launchpad. If you have Launchpad in your dock, click on the rocket ship icon. Or, you can press “F4” on your keyboard to launch it.

When the Launchpad opens, type in “Terminal” then hit return. Or you can just click the “Terminal” icon.

The Terminal app will then open.

How can you Open the Terminal on a mac from Your Applications Folder?

If you prefer to launch Terminal from the program icon in Finder, you will be able to find it located in the /Applications/Utility folder. This is its default location on fresh installations of the macOS.

To open Terminal from the Applications folder, click on your desktop to bring Finder into focus. In the menu bar, click on “Go” then choose “Applications.”

The Applications folder will open. Here, scroll until you find the “Utilities” folder. Double-click on “Utilities” to open it. Inside, you will be able to find the Terminal.

Double-click on the Terminal. App icon, then the Terminal will open.

You can keep the Terminal in your Dock to Access it faster

After you launch the Terminal, if you want to quickly access it again in the future, you can keep its icon in your Dock. Just right-click the Terminal icon on your Dock, then click on “Options > Keep in Dock.” The next time you need to run Terminal, you can use its Dock icon.

Starting with macOS Catalina, the default command-line shell is Zsh, however, you have the ability to switch back to the Bash shell if preferred.
