How to Temporarily Stop Windows PC from sleeping?

Sleep mode is a great feature that saves battery life and keeps your computer running smoothly, but sometimes you want to temporarily stop Windows PC from sleeping because of the inconvenience it causes. For example, if you are working on something important and suddenly the screen goes black because the PC has gone to sleep due to inactivity. If this often happens, there may be an easier way for you to handle it. Some people find that they want their PC to stay awake when certain programs are open or when they are watching videos online with flash content.

When you walk away from your computer but forget to turn it off, sleep mode might be useful in conserving battery life. It’s also great if you want to briefly take a break from your computer, and aren’t ready to close all your programs to shut down everything.

However, the automatic sleep mode on your computer can be annoying sometimes for example, if you’re watching a movie, or giving a long presentation. You may not always like the idea of your screen going dark after a few minutes.

If so, then follow the below process to turn off sleep mode on Windows.

How to Stop Windows PC from sleeping?

  • Tap the start button on your computer the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of your screen.
  • Tap the Settings button.
  • As the Settings menu opens, you can see several icons. Select the 1st one, with the image of a laptop, that’s labeled “System.”
  •  On the sidebar to the left-hand side of the window, click the “Power & Sleep, “option.

Under “Sleep,” there will be 2 drop-down menus,

  1. The computer is plugged in.
  2. One for when it is not.
  •  To completely disable the sleep mode, set both to “Never.”

Follow the same order if you would want to enable sleep mode if you want to turn it back on again. You could select desired time preferences in the drop-down menus instead, and you’ll be able to set how long it takes for sleep mode to turn back on.
