How to Find Your Router’s IP Address on Any Computer, Smartphone, or Tablet?

In the networking world, a default gateway is an IP address, this is where the traffic gets sent to when it’s bound for a destination outside the current network. On most home as well as small business networks, where often they have a single router along with several connected devices, the router’s private IP address is the default gateway. By default, all the devices on your network send traffic to that IP address.

For Windows devices, this is called the “default gateway” in their interface. For Macs, iPhones, as well as iPads it is simply called a “router” in their interfaces. On other devices, you may just find this as a “gateway” or something similar to that.

The IP address for your router is important as that is the address you will have to enter into your browser in order to locate your router’s web-based setup page where you will have the ability to configure its settings.

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address on Windows?

Your router’s IP address is the “Default Gateway” in your network connection information on the Windows OS. If you would like to use the Command Prompt, you will be able to find the default gateway for any connection quickly just by using the ipconfig command.

If you would like to, you also have the ability to find the default gateway address using the graphic interface. To do so, first, you need to open the Control Panel. All you need to do is click on Start, then enter “control panel,” then tap your Enter key.

Under the “Network and Internet” category that appears, click on the “View network status and tasks” link.

Click on the name of your network connection, you will be able to find it in the upper right corner of the “Network and Sharing Center” window

Under the “Ethernet Status” window that pops up, click on the button that says “Details”.

In the “Network Connection Details” window that appears, you will be able to find your router’s IP address, it will be listed as “IPv4 Default Gateway.”

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address if you are a Mac user?

If you are using a Mac, then the process of finding your router’s IP address is pretty easy and concise. Click on the “Apple” menu on the bar situated at the top of your screen, then click on “System Preferences”. After the “System Preferences” window opens, click on the “Network” icon.

Click on your network connection, for example, a Wi-Fi or wired connection, then click on the “Advanced” button, which is situated at the bottom of the screen.

In the “Network” window that appears, click on the tab that is named “TCP/IP”. You will be able to see your router’s IP address it will be simply listed as “Router.”

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address on iPhone and iPad?

If you are using an iPhone or an iPad, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi, then tap on the name of your Wi-Fi network. You will be able to see the router’s IP address, it will be listed as “Router”.

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address if you are using Android devices?

Sadly, or shockingly enough, Android does not provide a way for its users to view network connection information out of the box.

Many third-party Android apps will help you see this information, including Wi-Fi Analyzer. This application would also present you with an excellent way to choose the ideal Wi-Fi channel for your router’s Wi-Fi network. If you are using another network information app, all you need to do is look for the “Gateway” IP address.

If you are using Wi-Fi Analyzer, tap on the “View” menu, then tap on “AP List.” At the top of the screen that appears, you will be able to see a “Connected to [Your Network Name]” header. Tap on that, then a window will appear containing more information regarding your network. You will be able to find the router’s address, it will be listed as “Gateway.”

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address if you are running Chrome OS?

If you are using a Chromebook, click on the notification area, which is on the right side of your taskbar, then click on the “Connected to [Network Name]” option in the list that appears, then click on the name of the wireless network you are connected to.

When the network information appears, click on the “Network” tab, here you will be able to see the router’s address, it will be listed as “Gateway.”

How to Find Your Router’s IP Address if you are using Linux devices?

The majority of Linux desktops have a network icon in their notification area. Typically, you can just click on this network icon, then click on “Connection Information” or something similar to that. Search for the IP address, it will be displayed next to “Default Route” or “Gateway.”

Now that you know generally what to look for and where to look, you should also be able to find your router’s IP address without facing too much trouble on devices we have not covered in this article, as well. Any device that allows you to connect to the network, as well as view information about the network connection, will display it. All you have to do is look under the network connection settings for anything listing a gateway, router, or even a default route address.
